BOOK COVER COMPETITION
We have 5 x £5 Scholastic book vouchers to give away which can be used to buy a book in our Book Fayre. To have a chance of winning a voucher, children need to design a book cover on an A4 sheet of paper. Entries must be sent to the school office by 9am on Monday 4th March 2019. Every child has been sent home with a sheet of paper today, please ensure that your child’s name and class is clearly marked on their entry.

SCHOOL ATTENDANCE MATTERS (SAM BEAR)
At Summerfields we have two SAM Bears (teddies) in school which are awarded every half term to the class in each Key Stage with the highest pupil attendance. The bears have been presented in assembly this week to Year 2 (KS1) with 96.31% attendance and to Year 3 (KS2) with 97.17% attendance for last half term. Each class can then keep the bear in their classroom until the bears are presented again. We would like to say a very big ‘well done’ to every child who tries their very best to come to school every day.

BOOK FAYRE
Have you visited our Book Fayre after school this week? If you haven’t, you still have time to come along either after school today or on Monday 4th March 2019. All children have been able to have a look at the books during school time. Children can use their World Book Day vouchers against the purchase, as well as at participating bookshops. Any profit made from the sale of books will go towards buying new books for our school library.

WORLD BOOK DAY
Reminder we are dressing up for World Book Day next Thursday. Children should come to school dressed as their favourite ‘Book Character’.

‘MOMO’—NATIONAL ONLINE SAFETY GUIDE
‘Momo’ is a sinister online ‘challenge’ that has been around for some time. It has recently resurfaced and has come to the attention of schools and children across the country. We urge all parents and carers to read the information sheet below which gives top tips on how to help keep children safe online. For more information please visit the following website: https://nationalonlinesafety.com/resources/platform-guides/ .

CLEVER NEVER GOES SAFETY INITIATIVE
The safety initiative programme ‘Clever Never Goes’ has been developed to replace the out-dated ‘stranger danger’ approach. ‘Clever Never Goes’ moves the focus away from strangers and instead teaches children to recognise when someone is trying to persuade them to go with them. Parents can download a free home pack from: www.clevernevergoes.org/parents. The home pack contains some great ideas for how to approach this topic with your children as well as games and activities. On the website, you can also see a series of cartoon sketches which are a good way of reinforcing the Clever Never Goes message.

‘TRAINER TYPE’ SHOES
We are aware of the limited choices available to parents when buying school shoes, many of them are now in a relaxed ‘trainer style’. Although we ask that trainers are not worn for school shoes, we will allow ‘trainer style’ sturdy black shoes. Coloured shoes or trainers are not acceptable school uniform. Thank you for your support.

MAYFIELD ROAD CLOSURE
From Thursday 7th March 2019, Mayfield Drive (from the top of Staplers) will be closed to vehicles for up to 6 weeks. If this affect’s your journey to school, please allow plenty of extra time to get your child to school on time and to collect them in the afternoon.

PARENT GOVERNOR VACANCY
Reminder—Nominations for our Parent Governor vacancy must be returned to the school office via the “Green Box” by 9.00am on Thursday 7th March 2019 at the latest. Thank you.
