Don’t forget to order your tickets as soon as possible for this event.  Performances take place on Wednesday 19th December 2018 at 9am and 1.30pm.  The Dress Rehearsal is on Monday 17th December 2018 at 1.30pm when younger brothers and sisters are most welcome.  No tickets required for this, just turn up on the day.

There is FREE entry into the Museum of Island History, this Saturday 8th December 2018.  Why not go along to make a free badge or Christmas decoration inspired by their collections.

The new Summerfields’ Choir took part in their first event this week; they visited our neighbours at Vecta House and sang to the residents after school.  They performed beautifully  and were a credit to Summerfields.  Thank you to Mrs Luke and Mrs Henning for organising these evets.

We have had four tickets to Sleeping Beauty at Shanklin Theatre very kindly donated to school.  We have decided to hold a Grand Prize Draw to raffle this prize.  In the lobby there will be 165 squares.  For £1.00 you can purchase a square for a chance of winning this fantastic prize.  There will also be a “surprise” runners-up prize.  For further details or to purchase tickets, please speak to the school office.

Tickets are still available from the school office for the school discos being held on Thursday 20th December 2018.  The Reception and Key Stage 1 disco is from 5.00pm to 6.15pm; please note parents must attend with their child.  The Key Stage 2 disco is from 6.30pm to 7.45pm; children can attend this alone.  Tickets are £5.00 each which includes entrance, sweets, crisps and a drink.  For £1.50 extra children can also visit Santa, receive a small sweet treat and have a keepsake photo!  Please can we ask that tickets be purchased at the end of the school day as the school lobby is extremely busy first thing in the morning.  Many thanks for your assistance.

Please do not hesitate to contact the school office if you are unsure, or have any issues using, the school money system  We will be only too willing to assist.

Please can we respectfully request that parents or carers do not tape conversations or meetings, in person or on the telephone, with any member of staff without their permission.  Thank you for your co-operation in this matter.

Volunteers at Osborne are running two days of Christmas Craft activities for families over this coming weekend 8th and 9th December 2018 from 10.30am to 3.30pm both days. Go along and make Victorian paper decorations, table centres, nightlight lanterns and more. No extra charge for crafts.  Also on Fridays throughout December Osborne will be welcoming local school choirs who will be filling the house with festive music.

For both of these events there are no extra charges but normal admissions prices apply which includes access to the House decorated for Christmas. As normal, English Heritage members have free entry. We are planning family activity weekends once a month throughout next year so membership may be something families wish to look into as a good option.

Nothing is interesting if you’re not interested

Consultation Notice – Reduction in Medina College PAN

Thursday 29th November 2018 until Wednesday 16th January 2019

In accordance with the DfE’s 2014 statutory ‘Schools Admissions Code’ guidance the Governing Body for Carisbrooke and Medina College is consulting on the Admissions Arrangements of Medina College for September 2020 because changes are proposed. The amendments are:

  • To reduce the Published Admission Number at Medina College from 260 to 210 places in Year 7 with effect from September 2020. This means that the number of places available for children in Year 7 in 2020 and all subsequent Year 7 cohorts will be 210.
  • For children who already have a place at the school in other year groups there will be no proposed change. This is the only proposed change to the admission criteria, all other criteria, including oversubscription, will remain the same.

A full version of the proposed changes to the admission arrangements, as well as the rationale behind them, can be viewed on the website by following this link Medina College Consultation and hard copies are available from the school office.

Comments on the proposed admissions arrangements should be sent to the Clerk to Governors or by post to Emma Shambrook, Medina College, Fairlee Road, Newport, Isle of Wight, PO30 2DX by 12 noon on Wednesday, 16th January 2019.
