Newsletter 01/18

Welcome to Summerfields’ Newsletter.  A special warm welcome to all the new children who have joined our school this term in Reception and other classes in school.  We would also like to welcome Mrs Kate Henning as our new Year 1 teacher and Mr Matthew Shipley as our Year 3 teacher.  In addition we also welcome two Student Teachers, Mrs Mim Muncer and Miss Hannah Mew, who will be training with us this year.

This newsletter is published weekly on a Friday and contains lots of important information about school.  Some information is ONLY printed in the newsletter, such as important dates for your diaries and forthcoming events.  The easiest way to receive this is by e-mail.  You can do this by visiting the school’s website at and following the link at the bottom of the page.  However if you do not have access to a computer or mobile device, paper copies are also available from the school lobby on a Friday afternoon.

We are trying really hard to encourage children to talk about their learning and how they tackled challenges and learnt from their mistakes.  We would really like you all to help us with this by putting away your mobile phones for the walk home and making the first thing you say to your child when you see them at the end of the day “What did you learn at school today?” and then encouraging them to chat about school, friends and learning all the way home.

We will shortly be requesting families to complete our annual Medical Questionnaire for every child in school.  Please take time to complete this important form with your child’s up to date medical information, even if you have previously provided us with this information.  In addition Data Collection Sheets will also be sent home for you to check all contact information we hold is up to date.  It is vital that phone numbers for all listed contacts are current so that they can be contacted in an emergency. Thank you.

Next Monday, 10th September 2018, we are pleased to confirm that an author will be visiting our school.  Joffre White will be holding a whole school assembly, followed by workshops for Years 4 and 6.  After school at 3pm there will be the opportunity to purchase books from Joffre at a discounted price of £8.00 each, which he will then sign. See reverse of this newsletter for further details.

Please see the reverse of this newsletter for important dates for this term.  Please note that these dates are only a guideline and may be subject to change.  We have also included the term dates for the rest of this academic year for your information.

Just a reminder that the cost of a school meal has been increased by Caterlink from £1.85 to £1.95 per day.  Please can we respectfully remind parents that all school meals must be paid for in advance and not arrears.  You must therefore provide your child with a packed lunch from home if your dinner account is not in credit.  For details of how to pay online or via paypoint, please see the school office.  We would especially like to encourage children in Years R to 2 to take up the offer of free school meals under the Universal Infant Free School Meal programme.  Thank you.
