A MESSAGE FROM TONY MURPHY, CHAIR OF GOVERNORS

Well done to pupils, staff and parents on completing an action packed first half term! It is always a very busy and productive one.  Some of the Governors attended the recent Parents’ Evenings and had some useful conversations with parents.  A number of parents mentioned to us how well their children had settled into Reception Class.  Starting school is a major step for any child (and their parents!), so we were delighted to hear this. We are always pleased to hear your thoughts, so if you have any questions or concerns, please do get in touch, through the school.  I wish you all a really happy and restful half term.

Don’t forget the Friends of Summerfields are holding a disco for each Key Stage on the first Friday back, 3rd November 2017, details below:-

From 5.00pm-6.00pm for Years R, 1 and 2—please note all children must be accompanied by an adult

From 6.15pm-7.30pm for Years 3, 4, 5 & 6

Entry is £1.00 per child payable on the door.

WELL DONE TO OUR FOOTBALLERS!

Congratulations to both our football teams in last Friday’s matches versus Nine Acres.  In a superb team display, the A team knocked Nine Acres out of the cup, winning 3-2 with a hatrick from Matthew. The team came back from 1-0 and 2-1 down to get a last minute winner. They will now play Broadlea Primary in the last 16. The B-team also did really well to record a 0-0 draw.  Most of the players were representing the school for the first time and again the whole team were excellent.

HARVEST ASSEMBLY

Thank you to all the parents and relatives who sent in contributions for our Harvest assembly.  These have now been donated to the Isle of Wight Foodbank for distribution to local people in need.  Your generosity is very much appreciated.

DARK NIGHTS AT THE GARLIC FARM

Summerfields are participating in the Dark Nights event taking place at the Garlic Farm on Friday 27th and Saturday 28th October 2017.  Summerfields will be parading on the Saturday evening with the lanterns made at school.  There is an animated lantern trail, following ancient paths through fields and woodland.  The entrance is FREE with free parking and everyone is most welcome!  Walks start from 6.00pm.  Bring your own lantern or torch to light the trail!  Hot food and drinks will be on sale.  Dress sensibly for outdoor walking and please note some of the ground may be uneven.

POMPEY IN THE COMMUNITY FOOTBALL CLUB
