Newsletter 3/17

SCHOOL PHOTOGRAPHER

Unfortunately the school photographer has had to be rearranged.  Portrait photographs of the children will not now take place until Friday 13th October 2017.

CHATTER BOOKS

There is a new book group starting up for children in Years 5 and 6 shortly.  The first meeting will take place on Wednesday 8th November 2017 at the Lord Louis Library, Newport at 4pm.  The group is to talk about books, play games, write reviews and meet new friends!  Spaces are limited so please book on 01983 823823.

SCHOOL MEALS

School are going to trial a system whereby we text parents each afternoon to let you know what the school meal is for the next day, including the vegetarian option.  Hopefully you can then discuss with your child whether they would like that meal.  If not you will have time to prepare a packed lunch from home for them instead.  We ideally would like as many children as possible who are entitled to a free school meal to have one, but we do understand that children might not always like the choice available. A copy of next week’s menu is also on the reverse of this newsletter.

COATS

Please ensure that your child brings a named coat to school every day.  Children are expected to go outside at break and lunch times even if it is cold or slightly drizzling.

THANK YOU

Thank you to all the families who have already returned the up to date medical information and photography permission slips.  Please can ALL forms be returned by next Friday, 29th September 2017, at the latest.

SCHOLASTIC BOOK CLUB

Last week every family should have received a Scholastic Book Club flyer.  Please can any orders be returned to school by Friday 29th September 2017 at the latest via the Green Box.  Please note payment can only be made by debit or credit card; unfortunately we are unable to accept cash payments.  If you did not receive a leaflet, please ask at the school office.

WATER BOTTLES

We still have a lot of children asking for cups every day as they have not brought a water bottle to school.  Please remember that children should bring in their bottles every day; unfortunately school cannot afford to keep buying hundreds of disposable cups.  School do sell bottles of water and the cost of these has now risen to 40p.

WALK THE WIGHT

Congratulations!  We have made a fantastic start to next year’s Walk the Wight.  Your child has already walked 2½ miles towards their target of 26½ miles.  For children new to Summerfields, EVERY child will have walked the 26½ miles by May next year.  We do this by walking around the playground.  Further details will be sent out nearer the time regarding taking part in the “actual” school’s Walk the Wight next year.

MUSIC LESSONS

Music lessons at Summerfields are provided by Wight Music Tuition.  Currently Mr Carr has spaces for guitar lessons .  If you would like further details of  music lessons available and the cost involved, please ask at the school office.

IMPORTANT LETTERS THIS WEEK

Flu immunisation letters for every child in Years R to 4 have been sent out this week.  The deadline for the return of these was today. We apologise for the short notice but unfortunately this was set by the NHS and not school. You will be notified when the date of the immunisations is set.

ARE YOU UP TO DATE?

This week and next Data Collection Sheets, showing all the current contact information for your child, will be sent home.  Please ensure that all the information it contains is up to date; if information is incorrect or missing, please amend.  Forms should then be signed and returned via the “Green Box” as soon as possible.  Please remember it is your responsibility to keep school informed of up to date contact details in case of emergency.  In addition we now use the texting service to parents a lot more and if we do not have your correct contact number you may miss important information.
