Newsletter 34/17

Please can you bear in mind the type of adult conversations you have in the mornings in and around school.  You may have dropped your child off but there are still other children around.  I’m sure you wouldn’t want them to share details of your social life during their playtime.

We are starting to plant herbs in the beds at the front of the school.  We hope one day to have enough to share with you—a pick-go-cook system, but they will take a while to establish.  If you have any unusual herb plants that you can let us have that will help stock the ‘herb garden’ please feel free to plant them!! (a label with the plants name would be helpful or let the office know and we can make them).

Please ensure that your child has a water bottle in school every day.  We have had children queuing at the office most break times for a cup when they have forgotten their own water bottle. Children need to keep hydrated especially during the warm weather.  Thank you for your co-operation.

Every child should have this week received a letter regarding our Sports Day and Family Picnic.  We are inviting all families to join us for a picnic on the school field on Wednesday 5th July 2017 at 12 noon.  If your child normally receives a free school meal they will receive a school picnic instead. Therefore please complete the slip accordingly with their choice of sandwich filling. If your child is not entitled to a free school meal but you wish to purchase a school picnic, the cost is £2.15.  All orders for a school picnic lunch must be returned by Monday 19th June 2017. If any slips are received after this date they will be returned and you will have to provide your child with their own lunch. Again please return the slip by 19th June  and arrange payment via If you have any queries please do not hesitate to speak to the school office.

During the summer months please apply an ‘all day’ sun cream to your child before school.  This is to ensure that they have adequate sun protection throughout the day.  We would like to avoid children brining bottles of sun cream into school.  Thank you for your co-operation.

Next week is Healthy Eating Week, 19th – 23rd June. After school on Monday 19th June we will be holding a Healthy Eating Food Roadshow, organised by Chartwells, for families of KS2 children. There will be food demonstrations and tastings as well as ideas for healthy food swaps and family meals. Please come along with your child and join us in the hall for some fun and fabulous food!  During the week, children will all have the opportunity to prepare some healthy, savoury food and complete new challenges. Please be aware that children will be tasting food throughout the week, including competition entries. Please let the office know if your child has any medical condition, food allergy or intolerance. Don’t forget your entry form and tasty treats for The Great Summerfields Bake Off on Wednesday…!

Well done to all the children who took part in the Country Dancing Festival at Havenstreet this week. Everyone danced really well and enjoyed the event. The children behaved extremely well and were a credit to the school. Thank you to Mrs Stiles for organising this and to all the parents who came along and supported the children.
