LOVE YOUR BEACH AND GET INVOLVED

Would your child like to see their name up in lights at their favourite Island beach? They can win their own bit of beachside heaven.  From 9 January to 8 February 2017 the ’Beauty of the Beach’ campaign is running a social media competition to show how our Island’s children value our beaches and what they do to keep them clean.  There is nothing like a bit of shame from the youngsters to get us adults to take more care of our environment too! The competition is open to all of the Island 4-11 year olds. All they need to do is write a love letter in no more than 50 words, using the template below, to their favourite Isle of Wight beach, and get an adult to upload it to @EnvAgencySE on Twitter by the 8 February 2017. The winners for each beach will be announced on Twitter @EnvAgencySE on Valentine’s Day! The letter should use the following format:

“Dear ………. beach,
I love you because ……….
I will care for you by ……….
Lots of love from (name), Age (age), From (insert where you live).”

The winning love letters will be displayed throughout the Summer 2017 on each winning beach bathing water signage. So get creative! Encourage your children to come up with that winning letter, and get tweeting!

REPORTING YOUR CHILD’S ABSENCE

If your child is absent from school, please leave a message on our school telephone absence line (option 2) by 9:30am. If you would prefer to speak in person to a member of the office team, could you please refrain from calling between 8:00am and 9:00am as the office is extremely busy at this time of day.  Thank you for your co-operation.

THIS WEEK AT SUMMERFIELDS

The whole school enjoyed a ‘Cinderella’ pantomime at Barton Primary School on Monday. Despite the cold weather, everyone braved the walk to Barton and had a fantastic time!  Thank you to everyone who donated £1 towards the cost of the theatre group.

MANNERS AT LUNCHTIME

Our lunchtime staff are very good at reminding children about their manners at lunchtime and giving children an extra hand with cutting up food etc. when needed.  Could you please help us by reinforcing the good practice we teach at lunchtime as follows:

Encourage children to be independent with the cutting up of their food (especially Y3 and above)

Eating with their mouth closed

Not dropping food onto the dining floor just because they do not like it

Sitting up and round the right way

We do appreciate your support in this matter.

SCHOOL DEVELOPMENT DAYS

Please be advised that there will be two further school developments days on Monday 24th and Tuesday 25th July 2017. Therefore school will be finishing for the summer term on Friday 21st July at 2pm.  There will also be a leavers’ assembly for Year 6 pupils and their parents at approximately 1pm on this day.
