STAR PUPILS

This week’s Star Pupils will be Star Pupils next week as well due to the short week.  The Star Pupil assembly will take place next Friday 6th May 2016.  A text was sent to parents at the beginning of the week confirming this.

SCHOOL CLOSURES

Please remember school is CLOSED next Monday 2nd May 2016 for the bank holiday.  School will also be closed on Thursday 5th May 2016 as we are being used as a Polling Station.

MAY DAY CELEBRATIONS!

We hope you enjoyed our May Day celebrations this afternoon.  Everyone danced beautifully.  Thank you to Mr Murphy for crowning our May King and Queen.   Mrs Stiles’ Country Dancers will be performing at 12 noon at Arreton Barns on May Day, Monday 2nd May 2016.  Please come along and support them if you are able.  They will then be dancing in front of the lions at Sandown Zoo later in the afternoon.  We hope they all return safely and that the weather is kind to them!

BINGO!

Just a reminder that Bingo is being organised by the Friends of Summerfields tonight at 7.00pm.  Tickets are £5.00 per book with a free dabber.  “Bring Your Own” nibbles and drinks.  Thank you.

MATHLETICS!

As you may be aware, children in Years 2 to 5 are now able to use Mathletics.  This programme enables them to take part in Maths challenges on-line at school and at home.  We understand that lots of children are finding these really good fun and they have become super competitive playing against each other! Last week alone there were 270 sign-ins, 93,050 activity points were earned, total questions answered was 14,675 and a total of 92 hours was spent on-line.  Peru were the top points scorers with 42,240.  Well done Year 5!

STAY AND READ

Following the success of this event last half term, we are again holding “stay and read” next Friday 6th May 2016.  Parents/carers are invited to stay for 15 minutes at the start of the school day from 8.45am to 9.00am to share a story with children in their child’s class.  For further details please ask at the school office.

MONEY IN SCHOOL

Please can we ask that children do not bring money to school.  If they need to purchase a water bottle, this should be done at the beginning of the day.  Summerfields cannot be responsible for money that children bring to school and then lose.  Thank you.

GIFT TO NATURE EVENTS

On Sunday 1st May 2016 there is a walk and Pooh Stick Challenge (with prizes).  The walk starts at 10.30am from Newchurch Car Park and is approximately 3.5 miles long!  The event is free but there is a suggested donation of £2.00 per person.  On Monday 2nd May 2016 there is a “Pootle around Parkhurst” walk.  This is a short push-chair friendly walk to Parkhurst hide for a short session of squirrel spotting. Meet in the main Parkhurst Forest car park at 2.00pm.  Again the suggested donation is £2.00 per person.  These events are being organised by Natural Enterprise.  There is no need to book, just turn up.
