Newsletter 17/16

Unfortunately we are still having a lot of cases of head lice reported to school.  Please can we ask EVERY family to check their children’s hair and treat as necessary.  Unless everyone does this, children will continue to catch head lice again and again.  Please remember all children should have their hair tied back every day if it is long enough to put into a ponytail.  Plaits are even better as they stop hair flying about so harder for head lice to go between heads.  In addition children should remember not to wear anyone else’s hat as this can also lead to them spreading.  Thank you for your co-operation.

Please can we remind everyone that if your child would like a jacket potato for lunch instead of the normal menu, then an orange slip MUST be completed.  These are given to the kitchen and jacket potatoes are then cooked to order.  If a child just says jacket potato in class, there is a chance that their request will be missed and a potato will not be cooked for them.  Orange slips are kept in the school lobby.  Unfortunately jacket potatoes will no longer be available as a choice on a Friday.  Due to the number of children who enjoy “Fish and Chip Friday” the kitchen does not have the oven space available to cook jacket potatoes as well.  Sorry for any inconvenience.

Thank you to everyone who came along and supported the quiz held by the Friends last Friday.  It was a very enjoyable evening and £70.00 was raised.

The next event being organised by Friends is Key Stage discos on Thursday 4th February 2016.  This is the day BEFORE school is closed for a development day, on Friday 5th February 2016.  If you are able to help at either disco, please let the office know.  Remember without YOUR help these events cannot take place.  The KS1 disco is from 6.00pm-7.00pm when parents must stay and supervise their children.  The KS2 disco is from 7.15pm-8.15pm when children can be left.  The cost is £1.00 per child, payable on the door.

Please can child not bring football cards into school.  Recently a few disagreements have occurred between children so please can these be left at home.

A website that you may find useful is the Isle of Wight Safeguarding Children Board.  They believe that keeping children and young people safe is everybody’s business.  Their website brings together information for children and young people, for parents and carers and information for professionals who work with them.  The website also provides an overview of the IOWSCB’s responsibilities, structure and work of the board.

Thank you to everyone who has returned their slips to attend the Dr Bike session next Wednesday 27th January 2016.  All places have now been taken.  If your child sent in a slip, you will receive a text on Tuesday to remind you that they need to bring their bike and helmet to school on Wednesday.

Please remember children should not wear nail varnish to school.  If they do school may remove it.

Unfortunately a silver necklace has been lost on the way to school.  If you have found one, please hand in to the school office.  Thank you.

On Sunday 7th February 2016, Dinosaur Isle are holding a Family Fun Day.  Entrance is FREE to this event from 10.00am with last entry at 3.00pm.

There will be lots of fun activities taking place including measuring foot prints, painting models of fossils, face painting, hands on experience of real dinosaur bones and much more.  Go along and have some fun!

Don’t forget to send your child to school in a coat EVERY day.  If you bring them to  school in a car, they still go out to play, even if it is very cold, at lunch and break times.  A hat, scarf and gloves might also be a good idea too!

Please help your child at home to practise eating with their mouth closed.
