SCHOOL TRIPS

It is coming to a very busy time of year at school with exciting trips taking place.  This week Year 3 visited Marwell Zoo and had a great time.  Next Wednesday Year 6 are going to see The Lion King and having a day out sightseeing in London!  After half-term Year 4 are going to Portsmouth to visit another school and will hopefully go up the Spinnaker Tower as well.  Other trips for Year 1 and 2 are also in the process of being organised—further details to follow shortly.  Please can we ask that all permission slips, medical forms and payments are returned promptly to save  staff having to chase up missing information.

MOBILE DEVICE POLICY

Parents of children in Years 4, 5 and 6 will shortly be receiving a letter regarding bringing mobile phones to school.  Please can you look out for this and reply accordingly.  Children in any other years should NOT be bringing mobile phones to school—only children that can walk home are allowed to.  Thank you.

MAY HALF TERM SOCCER CAMPS

AFC Bournemouth are holding soccer camps this half term at Gurnard  Primary on Tuesday 26th May and Oakfield Primary on Thursday 28th and Friday 29th May.  The cost is only £5.00 per day from 10am-3pm.  These camps are for children from 5-14 years.  For full details and to book contact Lee on 07726 599 262.

HEAD LICE

Unfortunately we are still finding that we are having a lot of cases of head lice reported to school.  PLEASE can we ask every family to be extra vigilant and for everyone to take time to check their children’s hair and treat if necessary.  Thank you for your co-operation.

FRIENDS OF SUMMERFIELDS DISCOS

Don’t forget the Friends of Summerfields discos tonight.  Key Stage 1 is from 6.00pm to 7.00pm and Key Stage 2 from 7.15pm to 8.15pm.  Children in Key Stage 1 must be accompanied however children in Key Stage 2 can be left.  The cost is £1.00 per child, payable on the door.  Please come along and support this event if you can.

SCHOOL DINNERS

Unfortunately we still have a number of children who regularly say the wrong dinner at morning registration.    Please can you make sure your child knows whether they have brought a packed lunch from home or are having a school dinner.  This is not just children in Key Stage 1, older children also often “slip up” and make a mistake.  As we do not want children to go hungry or cook extra food which is then wasted, after half term two classes will be “trialling” a new system.  Further details to follow.

SICKNESS FORMS

Don’t forget it is your responsibility to complete a yellow slip once your child has returned to school following an illness.  Until this is received with the specific illness, your child will be marked as having “unauthorised absence” even if you have telephoned the school to advise us of their absence.  Once the completed slip is received, this will then be changed accordingly.

HALF TERM ACTIVITIES

Medina Leisure Centre is again running its very popular Activ8 sessions during half term.  Children in Key Stage 2 will have received a leaflet to bring home this week about all the activities on offer.  Medina Valley Centre is running a “Family Canoe Paddle” on Wednesday 27th May 2015 from 2pm-5pm.  The cost is £15.00 per person. For full details contact them on 522195.  Children’s tennis for ages 5-11 years is being held at Ventnor Tennis Club on Tuesday 26th and Wednesday 27th May 2015 from 8.30am-3.30pm.  The cost is £20.00 per day and places need to be booked in advanced by contacting Vanessa on 07437 204031.

THINGS TO DO BEFORE YOU ARE 11¾ …

Give yourselves a pat on the back!  Well done to all our Year 6 pupils who have this week worked really, really hard on their S.A.T.S.  We’re sure they’ve all done really well and tried their best!
